Get more sleep and melt more fat ! The stresses of everyday life affects how much and well we sleep. Losing sleep because of emotional stress places physical stress on the body - sleep deprivation plus stress equals overeating. Lack of sleep doesn't just make us more vulnerable to cravings. Research has found that sleep deprivation disrupts the body's normal ability to process and control blood sugar and weight related hormones like cortisol and the various thyroid hormones. This imbalance encourages cells to store excess fat and lowers your body's fat burning ability. Would you believe it, research has shown that it takes just three consecutive nights of 9 hours sleep to correct the blood sugar and hormone imblances that sleep deprivation can cause, which may make it easier for you to lose weight. According to theory, women who produce more of the appetite boosting stress hormone cortisol may tend to eat more under stress, possibly because they are producing more appetite stimulating Cortisol.

THINK BEFORE YOU DRINK

If you have type 2 diabetes, it's okay to drink in moderation as long as your blood sugar is under control. The key is moderation. One drink a day for women, two for men. A drink is defined as one 4 ounce glass of wine, one 12 ounce bottle of beer, or a drink made with 1 1/2 ounces of distilled liquoe. Heavier drinking can worsen complications of diabetes. Also, if you've been diagnosed with diabetes, follow these guidelines for drinking alcohol, from AMA. If you drink alcohol at least several times a week, tell your doctor before he prescribes medication. Test your blood sugar before you drink, decide whether you need to eat before you drink. Remember one alcoholic drink equals two fat servings. Opt for drinks lower in alcohol and sugar, choose sugar free mixers. If you have high triglycerides, you should not drink any alcohol. Alcohol affects how the liver clears fat from the blood and encourages the production of more triglycerides.
